What this site does

Landline Switch helps people in the UK understand and prepare for the switch from analogue landlines to digital voice. The old phone network (the PSTN) is being retired by January 2027. This affects anyone with a landline, and particularly anyone with devices that use the phone line: telecare alarms, burglar alarms, fire alarms, door entry systems, and more.

We provide two free tools:

  • Device risk checker: tells you which of your devices are at risk and what to do
  • Power-cut plan builder: creates a printable plan for staying connected during a power cut

We also publish plain-English guides on every topic related to the switch.

Who this is for

  • Older households who depend on a landline
  • People who use telecare or personal alarms
  • Carers and family members helping someone else prepare
  • Small businesses with devices that dial over the phone line
  • Property managers, housing associations, and landlords responsible for communal systems

What this site is not

We are not a phone provider. We are not a comparison site. We do not sell products, generate leads, or earn referral fees from providers. We are an independent information site funded by display advertising. Funding details.

Editorial independence

No phone provider, alarm company, or manufacturer has any editorial input into this site. We do not accept sponsored content, paid placements, or advertiser review of our guides and tools. Display ads appear on the site, but advertisers do not influence what we write or recommend.

How content is reviewed

Every safety claim on this site is traceable to a named source, typically Ofcom, DESNZ, the TSA, or published provider documentation. Every page with safety information carries a "last reviewed" date showing when it was last checked against current guidance.

When regulations change or providers update their processes, we update the affected pages and note what changed. If we get something wrong, we correct it promptly and transparently. Corrections policy.

Conflict of interest

If we ever include affiliate links (for example, to battery backup products), they will be clearly labelled at the point of the link. We will never recommend a product we would not use ourselves, and affiliate relationships will not affect the guidance we give. Advertising and affiliate disclosure.
